Advertisers to enjoy new video and text messaging ad formats

February 16, 2007⎯ The UCLA Daily Bruin, one of the first college newspapers to go online, launched its revamped website recently. The website’s redesign features powerful new ways to reach the UCLA audience that increasingly gets information online. Editorial content is now being delivered through different multi-media messages, causing readership to rise.

Daily Bruin Online is now featuring local video advertising that gives advertisers audio and visual possibilities. Video advertising is a popular trend in online advertising, prominent online news websites are allowing advertisers to join their online video broadcasting efforts.

Later this year, Daily Bruin Online with offer advertisers the capability to deliver advertising content to other platforms such as cell phones through text messages.

The website’s redesign includes new locations and sizes for online ads. Features like coupons, text ads and microbars link to a pop-up page were readers can print and email advertising content, and Google map the location of the business.

The site also includes new editorial features, like video broadcasting and staff blogs, that delivers news content in new multi-media formats, causing visits to go up by 3,000 a day.

Jeff Schenck, editor-and-chief, said that Daily Bruin Online will evolve to support community-generated news, probably under the Buinwalk.com banner, which will make it possible to better cover areas like student groups and intramural sports. These planned expansions will target audiences more effectively, which can expand readership and allow advertisers to reach specific target audience.
